Lupita Nyong'o Oscars Dress Returned to L.A. Hotel, Thieves Claim Pearls are Fake: Report

Lupita Nyong'o Oscars Dress Returned by Thieves
Lupita Nyong'o's infamous pearl dress has reportedly been returned to the hotel from which it was stolen.

The thieves dumped the actress's custom Calvin Klein Oscar dress – which was stolen from her hotel room two days ago – in a garbage bag and returned it to The London West Hollywood on Friday, TMZ reports.

"A guy called us at around 2:30 p.m. Friday and said he had taken the dress from Lupita's hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar," TMZ reports.

The anonymous caller said that after stealing the gown, he and other thieves removed several of the 6,000 Akoya pearls (rumored to be worth approximately $150,000) from the dress, and had them appraised by jewelry experts in the Los Angeles garment district – who determined the pearls to be fake.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's department tells PEOPLE that officers are currently on their way to the hotel to investigate the claims.
