Lady Gaga Wows at Oscars with Showstopping Sound of Music Tribute

Leave it to Lady Gaga to remind us why we love The Sound of Music.

The recently engaged singer, 28, honored the movie upon its 50th anniversary at the 87th annual Academy Awards Sunday night.

Gaga took center stage, channeling the film's iconic character Maria (played by Julie Andrews in the film) when she belted out a medley that included "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things" and "Climb Every Mountain."

Not only was her performance stunning, but the star also looked gorgeous in her second outfit of the night, a lace white gown, sans gloves.

Andrews herself later came onstage after the number and embraced the pop star.

"Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute. It really warmed my heart," Andrews said. "It's hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released."

Despite being the owner of six Grammy awards, Gaga had never performed at the Oscars before.

"Lady Gaga is a once-in-a-lifetime artist whose musical evolution keeps growing," Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "We are proud to have her perform on the Oscars for the very first time."

The 2015 Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris from the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles, are airing live on ABC.
