Lupita Nyong'o Oscars Dress Returned to L.A. Hotel, Thieves Claim Pearls are Fake: Report

Lupita Nyong'o Oscars Dress Returned by Thieves
Lupita Nyong'o's infamous pearl dress has reportedly been returned to the hotel from which it was stolen.

The thieves dumped the actress's custom Calvin Klein Oscar dress – which was stolen from her hotel room two days ago – in a garbage bag and returned it to The London West Hollywood on Friday, TMZ reports.

"A guy called us at around 2:30 p.m. Friday and said he had taken the dress from Lupita's hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar," TMZ reports.

The anonymous caller said that after stealing the gown, he and other thieves removed several of the 6,000 Akoya pearls (rumored to be worth approximately $150,000) from the dress, and had them appraised by jewelry experts in the Los Angeles garment district – who determined the pearls to be fake.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's department tells PEOPLE that officers are currently on their way to the hotel to investigate the claims.

There are a few things we’ve come to count on during each season of The Bachelor, from fantasy suite dates to hot tub hijinks. Another sure-thing? The arrival of Neil Lane, L.A. jeweler and ABC’s go-to Santa Claus, who comes bearing a sparkling collection of diamond engagement rings for the season’s suitor to peruse before giving his top pick at the final rose ceremony.

“It’s so cool to think of these wonderful women from all the shows over the years wearing my rings,” the L.A. designer told PEOPLE. “I’ve even heard some of them joke around and sweetly call it the Neil Lane club!”

But one contestant, season 13 runner-up Molly Malaney, was left out of the club, despite finding love with that season’s star, Jason Mesnick (a quickie refresher: Mesnick gave the final rose — and the ring — to Melissa Rycroft, but soon realized he was actually in love with Molly, whom he went on to marry on Feb. 27, 2010).

“Molly was the only one who didn’t have a ring of mine and Jason really wanted to change that,” said Lane, who designed a gorgeous 2.5 carat sparkler that Mesnick gave Molly on Friday, as a surprise for their fifth wedding anniversary.

Set in platinum with a rose gold band, the ring is decorated with a central oval-cut stone surrounded by a double halo of 160 round diamonds. “Molly is very sweet and feminine and the rose gold is so romantic,” added the celebrity jeweler. “They’re one of the nicest, sweetest couples I know and he’s madly in love with her. This was such a sweet way to celebrate their love and marriage.”

Mesnick, for one, couldn’t be happier. “I am just beyond thrilled that Molly finally gets her Neil Lane ring!” Mesnick told PEOPLE. “Women who receive a ring from him on The Bachelor — or away from the show — know how truly fortunate they are. I am [so happy] to be able to give Molly this ring for our five year anniversary.”

Welcome to the club, Molly! What do you think of her ring? Share your thoughts below.

Keith Urban and Eric Church Steal the Show at the Ryman

Keith Urban and Eric Church: Ryman Team UMG Luncheon
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of Nashville's Ryman Auditorium for this insiders-only country show.

For almost two hours on Thursday, 16 country artists played an array of new releases, about-to-be-releases and a few surprises fresh out of the writing fires.

From the superstars to the up-and-comers, the performers – all represented by the Universal Music Group conglomerate – each had a moment to shine before the several hundred programmers, DJs and other assorted station staffers gathered for the annual Country Radio Seminar.

The show climaxed with an unannounced appearance by Keith Urban, who earned a standing ovation before he even sang a note. After surprising the audience with an unreleased single "John Cougar, John Deere, and John 3:16," he brought back to the stage Eric Church to perform "Raise 'Em Up," their duet that appears on Urban's latest album, Fuse.

"You take her by the hand, make a stand, buy some land, make some love ... and then babies come," Urban sang, lingering over the familiar lyrics for new dad Church.

"That's right," Church responded with a big grin.

Earlier, during his solo stage appearance, Church proudly talked about the new baby, a second son named Tennessee Hawkins, whom he welcomed with his wife, Katherine, on Feb. 15.

"He's 11 days old ... and I'm tired," the country rocker announced with a sigh. Though Church's new single "Like a Wrecking Ball" is climbing the charts, he chose to play "something nobody's ever heard before," inspired by his grandfather, who developed Alzheimer's disease when Church was a boy.

"The hardest thing was to have a relationship when that person doesn't remember you," Church told the crowd, but he went on to resolve that difficulty in the song's poignant lyrics: "He doesn't have to know me 'cause I know who he is."

Church was one of several artists taking the stage who used personal tragedy as a muse.

Chris Stapleton, a genre-crossing singer known more for his songwriting skills, performed "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore" for his late father, a coal miner who died in 2013. (Stapleton actually toted a piece of coal his father brought up from a mine to the stage for the performance.)

Canaan Smith spurned his hit single "Love You Like That" to offer "Bronco," a tribute to his brother, who was killed in a car accident when Smith was a boy. And David Nail offered "Home," a song that grew out of the sadness over the recent loss of his grandmother.

Other highlights of the musical revue included newcomer Mickey Guyton, who performed the unreleased bluesy single, "Nice Things," standing a full five feet from the microphone, showcasing her impressive pipes – as well as the Ryman's world-famous acoustics.

Kacey Musgraves previewed "Biscuits," a single from her upcoming sophomore album that offers even more "Follow Your Arrow"-style advice: "Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy." Darius Rucker gave a sneak of his new album with a co-write, "Southern Style."

Vince Gill was the only artist to appear who didn't have a new song to pitch, but at this point in his career, the Country Music Hall of Famer has nothing more to prove. That doesn't mean he's ready to stop recording – even though Top 40 country has stopped playing his songs.

Before launching into his '90s hit "Whenever You Come Around," Gill told his audience, "I'm not gonna quit sending you records." Whether they're ever played didn't seem to matter to the affable singer: "Just rest assured, it's okay either way."

Madonna Reveals True Feelings About Lady Gaga, Slams "Degrading" Comments About Older Women

Madonna on Rolling Stone Cover

The Material Girl gets real. Madonna opened up to Rolling Stone in its new cover story, sharing her true feelings about Lady Gaga, and her personal battle against ageism.

Before the March 10 release of her 13th studio album Rebel Heart, the Queen of Pop, 56, addressed her ongoing "feud" with Gaga, saying she only felt ill will against her on one occasion, and that was to preserve artistic integrity.

"I don't think she wants my crown," Madonna said of Taylor Kinney's fiancee, 28. "We live in a world where people like to pit women against each other. And this is why I love the idea of embracing other females who are doing what I'm doing…" (Indeed, Madonna has publicly praised her pop proteges, recently complimenting 1989 hitmaker Taylor Swift for writing "some really catchy pop songs.")

Still, Madonna owned up to lashing out against Gaga — and said it was for good reason. "The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs," Madonna told the mag. "It's got nothing to do with 'she's taking my crown' or 'she's in some space of mine.' She has her thing. I do think she's a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue. And everybody's obviously running with it and turned it into a huge feud, which I think is really boring, quite frankly."

The incident occurred in January 2012, when Madonna (and many others) slammed Gaga's single "Born This Way" for its obvious similarities to her 1989 hit "Express Yourself." Several months later, Gaga retorted that Madonna's accusations were "a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about."

In the interim, the ladies have made peace, which Madonna reiterated to Rolling Stone in her latest interview. "And you know what? I don't care anymore," the "Joan of Arc" songstress said. "Here's the thing: one day everyone's going to shut up about it. You'll see! I have a plan."

The "Living for Love" hitmaker, who gave a rousing performance of her new single at the 2015 Grammys in early February, told the mag that lately, she's on a mission to call out ageism in celebrity culture.

"It's still the one area where you can totally discriminate against somebody," she complained to the music mag, "and talk s---. Because of their age. Only females, though. Not males. So in that respect we still live in a very sexist society."

Madonna, who looks stunning up-close on the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott-shot Rolling Stone cover, slammed remarks made about older women as "degrading."

"No one would dare to say a degrading remark about being black or dare to say a degrading remark on Instagram about someone being gay," Madonna told Rolling Stone. "But my age — anybody and everybody would say something degrading to me. And I always think to myself, why is that accepted? What's the difference between that and racism, or any discrimination? They're judging me by my age. I don't understand."

She used her butt-baring moment on the Grammys red carpet as one illustration to prove her point. Her message essentially was: "This is what a 56-year-old ass looks like, motherf---ers!"

Madonna added that she was anything but average, as evidenced throughout her illustrious three-decade career. "If I have to be the person who opens the door for women to believe and understand and embrace the idea that they can be sexual and look good and be as relevant in their fifties or their sixties or whatever as they were in their twenties, then so be it," she noted.

Madonna's issue of Rolling Stone hits stands on Friday, Feb. 27.

Bobbi Kristina Brown Suffers 'Violent Seizures' After Being Taken Out of Coma

Bobbi Kristina Brown Taken Out of Coma, Has Seizures
Bobbi Kristina Brown was taken out of a medically induced coma, but she did not have the response her family had been praying for.

"She was taken off the drugs, but she began having violent seizures," a family source says. "She is being put back into a coma."

The daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston has been kept in a medically induced coma since Jan. 31 after being found unresponsive in her bathtub.

"Bobby is beside himself," adds the source of this latest development.

Bobbi Kristina, 21, has remained on life support for the past few weeks. Before the most recent development, Dr. Subhashini Ramesh, a professor of NeuroCritical Care at Georgia Regents University, explained the reasons someone would be taken out of a medically induced coma: Either "the underlying problem has improved" or the doctors want to "get a sense of what the patient is able to do for themselves."

"This is a horrible setback. Everyone was hopeful that this was the sign that she'd turned the corner. We were so optimistic," the source tells PEOPLE. "Bobby is taking this so hard; he was sure this was going to be a good day. But please, everyone needs to pray for Krissi. I don't care what religion you are, or if you have no religion at all. Send your thoughts, your prayers, your well-wishes. Send everything you've got. Please."

Lady Gaga to Star in American Horror Story: Hotel

Lady Gaga Stars in American Horror Story: Hotel
Mother Monster's coming to the small screen!

Lady Gaga is set to appear in the fifth season of FX's popular serial drama American Horror Story, FX announced Wednesday. The show is slated to return in October.

The singer took to Twitter to confirm the news – and announce the fifth installment's theme, "Hotel."

"Make your reservation now. #GagaAHSHotel," Gaga posted alongside a creepy 22-second clip Wednesday morning. (The show's creator, Ryan Murphy, also shared the video.)

While Gaga's best known for her chart-topping hits, AHS won't be her first foray into acting: She had a small part in the 2013 action flick Machete Kills.

The avant-garde performer seems to be making a career comeback following her 2013 ARTPOP album, which disappointed critics. Last fall, she and Tony Bennett released Cheek to Cheek, a compilation of jazz standards that won a Grammy in February. On Sunday, she delighted viewers of the Academy Awards with a tribute to The Sound of Music that the Internet still can't stop talking about.

To top it all off, the star got engaged to boyfriend Taylor Kinney over Valentine's Day weekend.

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres in October on FX.

Shonda Rhimes Slams Lady Gaga's Sound of Music Tribute at Oscars 2015: "Dear God, Julie Had to Hear That"

Shonda Rhimes and Lady Gaga

It’s a common view that noted TV producer, beloved show creator, and outspoken activist Shonda Rhimes can do no wrong. After all, this is the woman who created Scandal’s Olivia Pope and the main reason we drink wine and stay in on Thursday nights. But on Sunday, Feb. 22, Rhimes, 45, voiced a very contrary opinion on Twitter during the 2015 Oscars.

“That was not okay,” she wrote following Lady Gaga’s The Sound of Music medley tribute. “I mean, Idina [Menzel] is there. She is right there. RIGHT THERE. And oh dear God, Julie [Andrews] had to hear that. #Oscars2015.”

The “Applause” singer’s unexpected and praised performance actually brought tears to the 1965 film’s star Julie Andrews, 79, who hugged Lady Gaga, 28, and raved about her rendition of the musical’s iconic songs.

On Monday, Feb. 23, a fan responded to Rhimes’ criticism, writing, “@shondarhimes wow, missing the point. The unexpected Gaga made the moment.” The #TGIT producer replied, “I probably did miss the point. Everyone else loved it. That’s okay.”

Tell Us: Do you agree with Shonda Rhimes or did you love Lady Gaga’s Oscars performance?

American Sniper Trial: Eddie Ray Routh Found Guilty in Shooting Deaths of Chris Kyle, Chad Littlefield

American Sniper Trial: Eddie Ray Routh Found Guilty in Shooting Deaths of Chris Kyle, Chad Littlefield
After an intense round of closing arguments that at one point caused Chris Kyle's widow, Taya, to storm out of the courtroom, her husband's killer, Eddie Ray Routh, was found guilty of capital murder on Tuesday night. He received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Routh shot Kyle, the real-life hero behind the blockbuster movie American Sniper, and his friend Chad Littlefield at a Texas gun range on Feb. 2, 2013. After the verdict was read at about 9:15 p.m. Central Standard Time, Littlefield's stepbrother Jerry Richardson read a statement to Routh in court.

"Because of you and your irresponsible choices, we lost a great son, brother, father and uncle on Feb. 2, 2013," he said. "And that will never change. Those are traits you'll never experience, because you took the lives of two heroes – men who tried to be a friend to you. And you became an American disgrace."

In tears, Littlefield's mother, Judy, told the media that that they'd "waited two years for God to get justice for us on behalf of our son. We're so thankful we have the verdict that we have tonight."

During closing arguments, Taya Kyle could be seen with her eyes closed as she listened. As the defense team argued its case, at one point Taya sat with her feet up on the chair and her head in her hands. She then suddenly stood and walked out of the courtroom, slapping the door with her hand as she left.

The verdict came after two weeks of emotional, sometimes bizarre testimonial statements about Routh's lifestyle, his mental-hospital stays and his volatile behavior. In the end, what it came down to was one question, as defense attorney Tim Moore said in his closing arguments: "What was going on in Eddie's mind when he shot those two guys?"

Assistant Attorney General Jane Starnes argued that what was going through his mind was "deliberate, it was calculating and it was cold." Noting that both men were shot in the back at least six times each, she described how Littlefield shielded his face before getting shot two more times.

RELATED: All About the American Sniper Trial

"This was not to prevent him from getting up, but to finish him off," she said. "He didn't want Chad dead. He wanted Chad dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead. And he wanted the same for Chris."

His lawyers described the former Marine as a "troubled veteran" who has schizophrenia, which worsened over time.

"He didn't kill these men because of who he wanted to be; he killed those men because he had a delusion," argued defense attorney J. Warren St. John. "He believed in his mind that they were going to kill him."

But District Attorney Alan Nash, noting Routh's pattern of ending up in psychiatric hospitals following an incident, said that "it's time for his deep well of excuses for violent criminal behavior to come to an end."

A History of Treatment in Psychiatric Hospitals

After Routh was discharged from the military in 2010, he ended up in psychiatric hospitals several times, once for threatening to kill himself and his family during a September 2012 fish fry.

By that time, Chris Kyle's memoir, American Sniper, had become a New York Times best seller after being published in January 2012. In it, Kyle recounted how his four tours of duty as a Navy SEAL earned him a reputation as the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history. In late 2014, his life story was turned into a critically acclaimed movie of the same name that starred Bradley Cooper and was directed by Clint Eastwood.

Before the verdict was read on Tuesday night, jurors heard more details about exactly what happened at the Rough Creek Lodge shooting range on Feb. 2, 2013.

"They made it their mission in life to be friends with other men," Starnes said of Kyle and Littlefield. "And that's what ultimately cost them their lives. It caused them to override any kind of sense of self-preservation."

RELATED: Eddie Ray Routh's Bizarre Behavior Described in Detail at Trial

Yes, prosecutors said, Kyle and Littlefield had texted to each other on the drive over that "this dude is straight-up nuts." But, as Starnes pointed out, his behavior "wasn't so alarming that they didn't put a loaded gun in Eddie Routh's hand."

Afterward, Kyle and Littlefield were standing in close quarters on the deck with Routh between them.

Routh took his loaded gun, pointed it at Littlefield's back and shot him twice. Littlefield fell to the ground and then rolled onto his back. Still alive, his hand grazed through a puddle of his own blood.

Routh then turned his gun on Kyle and shot him in the back and up the right side of his body six times.

It was then that Routh noticed Littlefield "convulsing," the prosecution argued, and shot him twice from his standing position through the head.

Kyle's injuries were "very linear in shape but confined," said forensic crime expert Howard Ryan during his testimony. "The only times we see that is when something has happened quickly and very decidedly.

"Given the skill set of Mr. Kyle, if he's forced with a confrontation, he's going to defend himself," Ryan added. "It's very obvious that he never saw it coming."

By now, you probably consider yourself a Taylor Swift expert. But in a recent pre-Brit Awards interview with Kiss FMUK, the singer shared some facts that might even surprise the most loyal Swifties.

Taylor SwiftDave J Hogan/Getty

•She has a borderline unhealthy obsession with Beyoncé
“It’s normal for everyone to love Beyoncé. I love her more than that amount. More than the normal amount. I try really hard not to let it get creepy. I channel it into a joyous admiration and appreciation.”

•The decision to cut her hair only seemed spontaneous
“I actually cut my hair here [in London], in the O2 arena backstage. All my friends watched, including Ellie Goulding. I was planning it for six months. I was like, I’m doing it. I’m cutting my hair. I’m changing my hair for the first time ever.”

•She’s apparently still growing
“I grew an inch [in the past year], which means I’m the latest developing human in the world.”

•She doesn’t have fancy tastes when it comes to stocking her dressing room
“I have water and Diet Coke. I’m a very disappointing person when it comes to extravagant celebrity stuff. People don’t really come around like, ‘Hey, we have a bowl full of diamonds. We’re giving them out to artists. Would you like some?’ ”

•She doubts Mariah Carey really requests doves in her dressing room
“She’s only ever been nice when I met her. There were no birds flying around.”

•She can’t ever choose between pals Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith
“Both of them like to have fun. Ed, I’ve definitely been at more bars with, and Ed always wants everyone to do shots. But Sam knows how to throw a great party — he threw a great post-Grammys party. So I’d say it’s going to be the Three Musketeers.”

Reporter Uses Racial Slur to Describe Lady Gaga's Music, Apologizes: Watch Now

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga had a triumphant moment at the 2015 Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 22, when she took to the stage to sing a medley of songs from the Sound of Music. The performance was critically acclaimed, but it prompted one Cleveland reporter to make a major on-camera misstep.

“It’s hard to hear her voice with all that ‘jigaboo’ music,” Fox 8 anchor Kristi Capel said of Gaga while talking to her black co-anchor. “Whatever you want to call it. She has a gorgeous voice I never knew.”

The term “jigaboo” is considered a racial slur toward black people, first used in the early 1900s.

Soon after her comments aired, Capel took to Twitter to apologize to angered fans.

“I deeply regret my insensitive comment. I didn't know the meaning and would never intentionally use hurtful language. I sincerely apologize,” she tweeted on Monday, Feb. 23.

@John_Ferguson_ @fox8news I apologize if I offended you, I had no idea it was a word or what it meant. Thank you for watching.

@BrookeM8 @fox8news I do apologize, I had know idea what it meant or that it was even a word. Thank you for watching.

She also directly tweeted at upset viewers, claiming she didn’t know what the word meant.

Lady Gaga Wows at Oscars with Showstopping Sound of Music Tribute

Leave it to Lady Gaga to remind us why we love The Sound of Music.

The recently engaged singer, 28, honored the movie upon its 50th anniversary at the 87th annual Academy Awards Sunday night.

Gaga took center stage, channeling the film's iconic character Maria (played by Julie Andrews in the film) when she belted out a medley that included "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things" and "Climb Every Mountain."

Not only was her performance stunning, but the star also looked gorgeous in her second outfit of the night, a lace white gown, sans gloves.

Andrews herself later came onstage after the number and embraced the pop star.

"Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute. It really warmed my heart," Andrews said. "It's hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released."

Despite being the owner of six Grammy awards, Gaga had never performed at the Oscars before.

"Lady Gaga is a once-in-a-lifetime artist whose musical evolution keeps growing," Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "We are proud to have her perform on the Oscars for the very first time."

The 2015 Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris from the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles, are airing live on ABC.

Gotham's Jada Pinkett Smith Talks That Scene and Her Own Comic Book Past

Gotham: Jada Pinkett Smith on Fish Mooney and Her Original Comic Book
If there's anything that Fish Mooney ( Jada Pinkett Smith) covets – more than reclaiming her nightclub and more than taking Gotham for herself – it's control.

Despite being locked in a prison that harvests the organs of its prisoners, however, Fish was able to reclaim at least a tiny bit of control on Monday's episode of Gotham, though it was pretty hard-won.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, Pinkett Smith, 43, talked all about Fish's need for control, the superhero comic book she wrote in her twenties (in which she'd want her daughter, Willow Smith, 14, to play the title role in a movie) and how she draws from "Dark Jada" to play Gotham's most resilient character.

Spoilers for "Red Hood" are below! You've been warned.

So … Fish stabbed her own eye out. What was it like filming such an intense scene?
That was an interesting day because I was not feeling very well. It was really challenging just keeping my concentration and keeping my energy levels up, but it was a lot of fun, too. It's very rare that you get to do something so extreme. The crew was so good to me, and everybody was chipping in. It was definitely challenging. But I loved having the opportunity to do some outrageous stuff.

When we first met Fish, she was pretty much entirely in control of her situation. Then, thanks to events set in motion by Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), her machinations kind of backfired. Now, in this prison – of all places – it seems like she's regained a sense of control over her life. Would you say that's accurate?
I would say that she's trying to. Fish really does a great job at making everyone believe that she has it all together even if she's terrified. Her motto is, "Never let 'em see you sweat. Never." I think what she's trying to do. I think she's figured out a way within the prison to have a certain amount of control, which is one of the reasons why she takes her eye out.

Fish is all about control, but at the end of the day, she's still very vulnerable and she's still trying to figure out how to have absolutely everything that she needs and wants, which is basically to get out of there and to get back to Gotham and get her club back – if that's even possible. She is desperately trying to gain control, and you see the desperation within that act of taking her eye out.

Will she get closer to getting back on top by the end of this season?
You know, we'll have to see if she makes it out alive! We'll have to see if Fish even makes it, you know. She may make it and she may not.

She is an original character, after all, so we don't really know her fate, as opposed to knowing that, say, Selina (Camren Bicondova) and Bruce (David Mazouz) will eventually be at odds. What is it like to have the freedom to shape your character, to be outside of the DC comic-book canon?
I think it's kind of cool, you know? It gives me an opportunity – like you said – to participate in creating a character that may become part of the canon. We have yet to see whether that will occur, but it definitely has been a real creative joy to have this opportunity to help create this character. I mean, who ever gets that opportunity?

On The Walking Dead, Daryl ( Norman Reedus), who is one of my favorite characters, wasn't an original character in the comic books – which I was a fan of, as well. I bet you he'll be in the canon now! 'Cause he's, like, one of the most gangster characters on that show!

So, you're a comic book fan! Are you a fan of the DC Comics as well?
I am! I have been. I would say there are some comic books that I've loved that are a bit more obscure. I played my hand at creating a comic book before – called Menace – when I was in my twenties. I was trying to create a black female comic-book character that was from the 'hood.

You wrote it?
Yeah, I wrote it, and it was with a company at the time that went under, unfortunately. She was called Menace, and she was this character who was doing a lot of bad stuff. She died in a drug deal gone bad, and, as she's about to die, an angel comes to her, and he basically says, "Listen, I will return your life to you if you take this opportunity to redeem your soul. I'm going to give you the opportunity to save the souls of those who are like you" – basically, young kids who are out in the streets doing bad things.

So she takes the deal, and each soul that she saves brings her closer to eternal life and brings her from the dark to the light. She just has this struggle between dark and light. That was pretty much what that comic book was about. She was pretty hot, and her name was Menace 'cause she was a menace! [ Laughs]

Have you ever thought about making that into a movie?
I have! You know, I really have, but I always struggle with the idea of like, "Oh man, it's a black female character," and just dealing with the politics of, like, "Will a studio make a black character like that?" And it might not be a role for me. It could be something I'll hold for Willow. Maybe it's something I'll hold for another young actress. But I think there's an opportunity to make it, for sure. I don't know if it will be made for me, necessarily, and that will be fine. I would just love to get it made! But I still have it, and it's a property that I feel still has value.

Totally – and things are changing slowly but surely ...
Surely! Absolutely! They are! But you know, in the comic-book world, the fanboys and fangirls can get a little tight! I don't know, we'll see! Now that I'm submerged back into this comic world, we'll see how it goes.

Is there anybody in the DC universe that you're hoping will join the fray in Gotham, or has your favorite character already joined?
I mean, we all love the Joker. That's coming. There's a really obscure character, that I used to like called Jane Doe. She could switch identities. I always thought that she was cool. It would be cool if she came – she's pretty, pretty awesome.

What's the best part about playing a "bad guy"?
One of the things that I love about this particular character is that I get to be so outside of myself. It's really a character. Of course there are certain aspects of Fish that I can pull from Jada, but, you know, I just love that Fish doesn't care about being politically correct. She can just be as vicious as they come, and I think I love that.

It gives me an opportunity to really explore and express my shadow side – my dark side – in a healthy way. Like, Fish really gives Jada an opportunity to get into some stuff that Jada wouldn't and express herself in a way that Jada wouldn't. Fish goes for it, and I love that about her.

It's a running joke with my girlfriends – they're like, "I need Jada to take a seat, and I need Fish Mooney to come to the table. I need Fish Mooney right now! We need to get this situation handled!" Be careful what you ask for! [ Laughs] And sometimes I do call upon a little Fish Mooney energy sometimes, believe it or not. Not her vicious side but just her strength. Fish will just not back down, no matter what. And sometimes I do call upon that energy, that fierceness. She's been a great discovery. You do have to keep her in check, though!

Gotham airs Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on FOX.
